Challenge: Forgive Charity: C-R-Y Total £ accrued: £864.80 Status: Really happy with the results of my fundraiser!
The Second Challenge: Forgiving Continued…
It didn’t take long for me to come across many chances to forgive others (and myself), but this month I have also had the opportunity to give in a different way.
As previously mentioned in February’s previous post, one key reason for choosing C-R-Y as my charity of the month is because my boyfriend (who is also up there on my forgiveness list for a multitude of grudges including, but not limited to, ditching me for 5 months… joking… sort of) is currently preparing to set off on a 2,650 mile journey of his own in memory of his close friend.
In support of this, being a member of the Charity team at my workplace, I held a Valentine’s day event in the office.
“Have a Heart” Valentine’s Day Charity Event
The day kicked off with the valentine’s themed baking competition which was judged first thing, we then cut the cakes into slices and sold them for 50p a slice.
Next we had the tombola where we displayed the many prizes (courtesy of Ryan & members of the charity team) and people flocked to the stand. It was £1 for 3 tickets and it wasn’t long before the prizes flew off the shelves. For some reason a handful of the boys became obsessed with trying to win a set of bongos. And even after they were won, there was some definite bribery going on as one colleague tried to swap his girly office-romance book win with the bongos. Additionally there were some stone hand ornaments that made their way around the office eventually landing on the desk of someone by the name of “Hands”.
Other activities included the “Jar of Hearts” guess the number of sweets, “Cupid’s Cuties” guess the baby, candy floss sale and finally the much sought after raffle!
The raffle was a huge success and it wouldn’t have been so without the generosity of these companies:
Waterstones
Costa
Waitrose
Dorking Models
Dorking Museum & Caves
Rialto
Pizza Express
Red
Food Float
Boots
Rush
Dare
Essensuals
Lavender Beauty Salon
Steam Trade Cooking
Denbies
To end the day with a bang we raised a total of £610.80 which my company, Aviva, will match with an extra £250.
Ryan’s 2,650 Mile Hike
Earlier in a previous post I quoted “a journey of a thousand miles begins with just a step” and what a step this is! For all my complaining of Ryan ditching me for 5 months, I can wholeheartedly say that I am proud of what he is doing. As I said before, he is doing this in memory of his childhood friend who sadly was taken too soon and Ryan is hoping to raise £6,000 for the charity C-R-Y (Cardiac Risk in the Young).
Now I don’t like to remind myself of the gruesome details about the dangers he is likely to face like wild animals, starvation, dehydration and falling off a mountain, so I will let you read that for yourself in his very own blog here.
If you are feeling inspired and would like to sponsor him on his own journey of pushing limits, self discovery and charitable giving then please do so using the button below.
